The original Bánh Mì dropped in the mid-19th century when Vietnam fell under French colonial rule. The French brought the format, and the Vietnamese brought the flavor, stuffing baguettes with pâtés, fresh chiles, and pickled vegetables, creating an entirely new dish that would go on to travel the world. Part Vietnamese, part French, all delicious – this sandwich has become a global phenomenon, and continues to get reinterpreted in the most delightful and delicious ways. Fast forward nearly 200 years and chefs from Saigon to South Central are still riffing on these flavor combinations.
In the latest, quite possibly most craveable iteration yet, LA’s favorite Jew(ish) Pitmaster Rebecca King (AKA The Bad Jew) teams up with sando-queen Kat Turner of Highly Likely to bring LA a whole new flavor, somehow simultaneously unconventional and familiar.
Ever since Rebecca launched her delightful unkosher pork pâté last year, (lovingly known as Fâté) she has been searching for the perfect outlet for this porky-goodness.
